An egret preens its breeding plumage in Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. Simply preserving the 11,000 acres of pristine old-growth cypress forest itself is not enough to keep the area healthy. The cypress strand ecosystem relies on the water from surrounding areas to maintain the seasonal ebb and flow of fresh water.
