Nancy Payton of the Florida Wildlife Federation believes Collier County should draw a line in the sand with developers to protect the environment that makes Southwest Florida unique. She has opposed the TwinEagles development, which is being built outside of the county's urban boundary. Ken O'Leary of TwinEagles says the land his development is built on was already impacted. The site has been farmed for decades. O'Leary maintains TwinEagles epitomizes responsible development and will stand as a showcase for future projects. TwinEagles was later forced into bankruptcy by the many lawsuits brought by environmental groups like Payton's Florida Wildlife Federation opposing the development. |
